Bio

It all started when Antoine moved to Paris for fashion school. There he discovered a fascination with colour and form, patterns and patchwork, dichotomy and mischief inspired by designers such as Walter Van Beirendonck, Thom Browne, Viktor & Rolph, Comme des Garçons.

The deeper he delved into fashion, the more he felt the need to move beyond the confines of the wearable, towards a place of complete creative freedom.

There he found more than just a coherent creative voice, he found a process - collage - that would command and unite all of this work around one driving force: surprise.

From the Wonder series

Creating something that couldn’t be anticipated, worked out, or intellectualised became the core of Antoine’s practice. As he refined his process in response to his environment, he developed projects that would encompass a wide variety of approaches:

from small-scale collages made from lifestyle magazines found around the house, finding familiarity in of the uncanny,

From the Red + Green = Yellow exhibition

to large-scale colour blocks compositions built directly onto walls using coloured paper.

From the FACE series

He combined analogue collage with digital painting to explore what identity means online,

From the (DIS)APPEAR series

and used appropriation to fragment and rebuild images revealing the tension between the desire to be seen and the fear of showing oneself.

And even time turned as the driving force for creativity.

Each passing year and new project, Antoine explored a different facet of the underlying force that drives him to create, design and compose.

It was only a year ago that he decided to bring together his early love of fashion and his evolving collage practice.

This felt like a natural progression, born out of his desire for novelty, singularity and modernity - a search for a visual language that goes beyond the imagery we consume - and his interest in people and the human body.

When Serendipity Becomes Style, his most recent undertaking, curates instances born from chance to create a visual language that is raw, inspiring and exciting - and that is driving the styles of tomorrow.
